On March 15, 2023 Arin welcomed Vonage Developer Advocate, Diana Pham to talk about and demo low code for customer engagement with Vonage AI Studio.

Diana shared that low-code and no-code platforms allow users to build and deploy applications with minimal coding or programming knowledge. These platforms often provide a drag-and-drop interface that allows users to create applications by selecting pre-built components or widgets and assembling them into workflows.

Components typically include pre-configured integrations, data models, and user interface elements. Low-code platforms require some programming skills but are designed to minimize the amount of coding required.

Pros of low-code and no-code platforms

  • Faster development
  • Reduced Cost
  • Easier Maintenance
  • Improved Collaboration

Cons of low-code and no-code platforms

  • Limited Scalability
  • Limited Customization & Functionality
  • Limited Flexibility
  • Technical Complexity

Webhooks

As mentioned, one of the cons of low-code platforms is the limitations they have due to being built to work with a very specific framework. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t include customizations and use third-party services. Webhooks, which are HTPP requests that get triggered by an event, are an answer. For example, the webhooks node in the Vonage AI Studio enables you to send and request data from third-party services.

ASR and NLP

Diana explained that there are two parts to the Studio AI – the ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) and NLP (Natural Language Understanding and Processing). The ASR registers the user input and transforms speech into text. This text then is analyzed by the NLU component that will try to classify the input into the correct place of the agent’s knowledge base. She gave a high level demo of this and talked about the training models.

Questions and Additional Conversation

  • Is ChatGPT built-in? Or is it possible to use another AI provider?
  • Use cases, such as telehealth
  • How can you integrate WebRTC and Video into the Vonage Studio?
  • How do you test a Low Code configuration? How do you ensure version control?
  • What are some best practices for multi-modal conversations and switching from Conversational AI to human agents?

Promo Code!

Diana offered a promo code for those wishing to try out the Studio. Reach out to her at @dianasoyster.
