Twilio Video Migration Assessment.

HomeTwilio Video Migration Assessment

When Twilio Video announced its End of Life, this remote home inspection service turned to the WebRTC experts to help find a new solution.

Given the critical importance of real-time video communication to their business, it was imperative to this client to conduct a timely and comprehensive evaluation of alternative solutions soon after the announcement of the sunsetting of Twilio Video API. They wanted a solid plan in place for migrating their solution to a different platform with minimal impact on their business. While they were at it, why not look at optimizations, too?

We were impressed with the company's professionalism and dedication to our project. They actively involved us in the process, allowing us to contribute and seek clarification, as evidenced by their approach to 'seeing the final report in progress' and welcoming additional questions for clarification.

The Existing Solution

The client’s product is a dynamic web application that enables their agents to engage in one-on-one video conversations with clients via smartphones or tablets to conduct virtual home inspections. It encompasses fundamental functions such as chat, telephone SMS, and usage monitoring, advancing to more sophisticated features like note-taking, recording, transcription, real-time assistance during calls, and the capability to capture and attach photos.

Our Three-Step Approach

  1. Understanding: In a kick-off meeting with the client’s team, we asked a lot of questions to gain insights into the existing system, its intricacies, requirements, user expectations, and any future plans for the platform in terms of scaling or functionality. We received a run through of the current workflow and requested the application code for review.
  2. Initial Recommendations: After thorough evaluation of this information, we presented alternative architectural solutions and initial optimization recommendations with rough pricing for discussion. We encouraged additional questions and conversation around our choices.
  3. Final Presentation: In the third and final meeting, we proposed a set of implementation paths using multiple combinations of the suggested tools and with time and cost estimations.
